"Now playing" not accurate after gesture song change

Noticed this before but this time I decided to find out the cause.

The problem: the "Now Playing" song at the bottom of the app or on lock screen is not the same as the song that is actually playing. If you select the song, it will take you to the correct song page.

Cause: This only seems to happen when changing songs using the swipe gesture, in this case I changed the song successfully twice but on the third try the Now Playing retained the previous song.

Phone is HTC One 

Android version 7.0

This has been happening for at least the last 4 versions of Spotify
