"Spotify Keeps Stopping" New Galaxy S9 Android 8.0.0

My Question or Issue

 I just got a brand new galaxy s9 running oreo, and can't get spotify up and running.  It just says "Spotify keeps stopping".  I tried clearing the cache, doing a clean install, and restarting the phone.  I made sure that Spotify isn't being optimized for battery.  I attempted to move the cache onto an external SD card.  Spotify has storage access, and I have recently reformatted the SD card, but I don't see the "storage" option when I go to setting.  I also tried manually creating the /android/data/com.spotify.music folder in the sd card but that didn't work either.  I am seeing some other app folders in the sd/android/data though.  Is it possible the card is being used as internal storage instead of external? How can I change that if reformatting it in the phone doesn't work?
