using to much data Help

using to much data Help

This month I am already at 1.37 GB and only 10 days in .... The past months I was around 700 MB of data with spotify on my Android phone. What happend that caused it to use so much data already this month?   I  need my spotify,  I hope this isn't permenant. Is there anything to do to keep it from using so much data. I only get 6 GB a month.

Hey there @kascott83!

Spotify released a new android client - "Spotify Music", so now it has to redownload all your songs that was previously in your cache. That's probably why it's consuming a lot more data. Also you might have cleaning apps that keep deleting the cache.

In the settings of your Spotify App, you can set the quality of the music streamed to use less data. Also if you have a premium subscription, you can download your tracks (via Wifi or mobile internet) so it doesn't bite into your data limit.

If you have T-Mobile USA, they just announced Spotify will not count against your data limit - see here.

That's awesome! I'm on T-Mobile and didn't know about this lol. I'd say the majority of my data use actually goes towards Spotify streaming while I'm driving, so it'll be great not to have to think about data limits.

You're spot on! Just make sure that cache doesn't get cleared. I do recommend you do get the premium subscription though (even the trial here) so you can save on mobile data by downloading the songs.

Hey there.

If you have no Premium, cache works this way: Spotify download streamed songs to cache, but only some. Also cache changes all the time, most played tracks will sit in cache forever, less-played - Spotify will remove these from cache. In other words you can't have all the music in cache you might have. I have a lot free space on my smart phone, but Spotify is using only near 400 MB. Even if more space is free. With Offline mode I can easily keep all songs, but there is no need.

As in Finland mobile data is unlimited. When you have Premium, cache works still this way as in Free. If you need to collect all songs in cache, put playlist to Offline mode!

I pay for example 5000 minutes of voice, 5000 items of messages and 21 Mbps Unlimtied mobile Internet 14,85 € in month, offer to Feb. 2015. After offer 29,70 €. But I most likely will downgrade to Unlimited 21 Mbps Internet, 300 min voice, 100 itm sms 18,80 € month.
