Can't finish setup - no sound from car

Can't finish setup - no sound from car

Plan: Premium

Country: USA

Device: iPhone 11 Pro iOS 15.4.1

Vehicle: 2012 Chevy Cruze

This is a brand new Car Thing on initial setup. The phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth, and the USB cable is plugged in. The car stereo is set to Aux Accessory. Car Thing is connected to my phone.

When I reach the step where a tone is meant to play through the phone and the car speakers, I only get sound through the phone. Regardless of whether I select Bluetooth or AUX/USB on that step, I only get sound through the phone. I have reset and factory reset several times with no success. Car Thing is able to control what plays on my phone, but there is no sound from the car.

This is very disappointing. I paid a lot for this in the hopes it would allow me to play Spotify on my older car. It would be really difficult to recommend Car Thing or Spotify in general after this experience.

Hey @Juniper200

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Car Thing.

I've seen a few other similar posts before about Car Thing and Bluetooth and what I found is that certain older cars have an older version of Bluetooth that only supports playback of phone calls and not music or other audio.

I recommend to check out the manual for your car to see what kind of Bluetooth connection it supports.

I found similar discussions here about your car model and Bluetooth:

You can try some of the suggestions listed in the linked discussions or you can connect your phone to your car via AUX/USB if supported.

You can also find the Return Policy here if Car Thing doesn't work out for you.
