Hello, recently Spotify Car Thing will not respond to voice commands. When I say "hey Spotify" it shows that it is listening, then Immediately says something went wrong. I have tried all the trouble shooting steps and none have worked. Please help.
Hey there @Nathan2004,
Thanks for the post.
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the Car Thing.
Can you let us know when did this start happening and what troubleshooting you've already gone through.
We'll do our best to help. Cheers.
Hi @Nathan2004!
Have you noticed the issue occurring when you have poor internet connection? CarThing uses mobile data in order to recognize voice commands. Could you try using the voice commands again when you have a stable internet connection?
Let us know how it goes. Cheers!
Yes I have tried it with a stable connection.
Hey @Nathan2004,
Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay.
Could you test it outside of your car while connected to WiFi?
Let us know if the issue still persists after doing this.
We'll be here standing by.
When I say a voice command, the words appear on the screen no problem, but the device loads for a minute and then says "I didn't understand what you said. Tap to try again." despite the fact that it did understand it and put the words on the screen. I didn't have this problem before today.
I have the same thing going on. It searches, displays the voice command in text, but then says it can't understand. It worked fine for about 2 weeks and now I can't get it to work. Nothing has changed. Same driving route every day. I did a factory reset as well. Same problem.
Hey @chrismcafee13,
Could you test what @AndresM has suggested to Nathan2004?
Let us know how it goes and we'll take it from there!
Thanks & cheers!
I've tried all of the above and keep getting the same message. No matter what I say. It hears it. Yet says it didn't understand and something went wrong.
Same on two new devices. Spotify chat suggested returning.
*Update* The Spotify Car Thing received an update and the problem is now fixed!
I too am having this issue on Spotify version 8.7.58.462 on my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G running Android 12. There was a Spotify app update on 08/22/22 and I noticed the voice commands not working the following evening which leads me to believe it is an issue with the current Spotify version.
My carthing is running app version 0.36.38 and OS version 7.3.9
I also have an iPhone running the ios 16 beta which I connected to my carthing running Spotify version 8.7.56.464 and the voice commands worked with no hesitation.
I am having this issue as well. It displays what I say and then says that it didn't understand.
Same issue. If I ask Google to play, it plays no problem. Seems like this car thing was a waste of money
I have the same issue. Has anyone found how to fix this
Same problem:
Android 12 Galaxy S22 Ultra
Spotify Version 8.7.58.459
Car Thing
App Version 0.36.38
OS Version 7.3.9
I now have the same issue. Is there anything that can be done to fix it?
What Happened to Spotify’s Car Thing? Spotify Exits Hardware
Looks like Car Thing may be on its way out.
Has anyone fixed this issue I just got mine and it hasn't been a month and it stopped working
