My Question or Issue

Hi there,

I'm starting this thread in the off-chance that someone else has figured out a way to make the Car Thing work with a car with a cassette sound system. At the moment, I'm using my phone's Bluetooth to connect to an Amazon Echo Auto, which then is connected to my sound system using a 3.5mm to tape adapter. I'd like to make the Car Thing work but am struggling to find a way that isn't unreasonably fussy. Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Hi @cfcneil31598,

Thank you for posting your question on the Community!

Whenever you set up a Car Thing, you need to make sure to connect your phone to your car through a 3.5mm aux cable, Bluetooth or USB cable. In turn, the Car Thing should pair to your phone through Bluetooth.

You can find more info on how to properly set it up in this article.

Car thing works just fine with a tape cassette to aux set up! I use it that way and it works great 🙂 You do have to plug it into your phone instead and have car thing plugged into the power amp but besides that it's excellent!

Hi cfcneil31598,
I also have a vehicle that only has a cassette deck, but doesn't have a female auxiliary port, (for reference, I have a 1990 Acura Integra). Because my phone doesn't have an auxiliary port either, I've recently purchased a female auxiliary to USB-C adapter cable that I plan to connect my phone to via a cassette adapter that I have. I haven't received this cable, nor have I gotten Car Thing as of yet. Once I have both of these In my possession and had a chance to test it, I'll report my results back to this thread.
Hope this info helps!

Hi, did this ever work out? We have an 2006 with just a tape deck, and we now have a Car Thing. Is is possible?  Thanks!

Yes! We got it to work with the old cassette adapter. The Car Thing is plugged into the cigarette lighter, and the Samsung is plugged into the cassette. And the sound is soooo much better using The Car Thing than it was just using the tape/cassette adapter itself. We are happy, Car Thing is great for our old 2006.

Hi sjasja,

I'm glad that you found a solution! I haven't had a chance to try my idea with Car Thing yet, as the cassette player in my vehicle won't accept a cassette or adapter ( i.e it's broken). However, I will try it out next summer once I've gotten the cassette player repaired.

Otherwise, I'm glad your plan worked!
