My Question or Issue
Is there any way I can block a song from ever being recommended? Like if I enhance a playlist and then hide songs I don't like, if I then listen to another playlist, I end up having to hide many of the same songs all over again. And any time I take a playlist off shuffle and take away the recommendations, whenever I enhance the playlist again all the same songs I've already hidden in the past come back and I need to hide them all over again.
So is there anyway to just block a song completely from ever being recommended?
Thanks.
Hi there @evolvecoaching,
Thanks for the post.
Currently there is no way to block a certain song from ever appearing in your app, but there are a couple of things you can do.
If you want to stop getting recommendations about certain music, you can now exclude it from your taste profile. More info here.
You can also block the artist of the song. Open their artist profile on your mobile app > click the 3-dot menu and select "Don't play this".
Hope you find this information helpful 🙂

My Question or Issue
When I play kids music on my Alexa devices, like “Raffi radio” or “This Is (Artist)”, we keep getting kids christian music. Lots of these artists have one or two christian albums, and they’re getting included in my kid’s auto-generated playlists. This music is VERY hard for my husband and I to listen to, we both have very negative experiences with that music, and I don’t want my kids listening to it. They often trigger these playlists themselves, so we can’t stop them from doing it without being unfair to them. I’ve gone through and “hidden” every religious song of these artists I can find, and they’re actually playing MORE now, I think because I was searching them to hide them.
This is very upsetting and I want it to stop. What can we do?
this is incorrect. It is no longer available on the desktop for god knows why....why can I not dislike or block an artist? It would help you guys refine your recommendations.
Sincerely a disgruntled customer
Yup, same here! The only option is to report the song to Spotify. I've had TSwift hidden/blocked and still received their music in my recommended.
Another issue is Spotify playing a remix of a song instead of the original as intended. Instead of playing "I'm Your Baby Tonight - Whitney Houston", the remix "I'm Your Baby Tonight - Dronez Club Mix" plays instead and there is no option to hide the atrocious remix. I've blocked artist Dronez, but because the remix is titled under Whitney Houston, the remix or the artist Drones cannot be blocked
so on my homescreen (often PC, sometimes mobile too) i see a category labelled "Your Favorite Artists" which shows a collection of artists spotify thinks i like. when ive looked at it its mostly been accurate (currently my taste is pop punk & any kinda emo but it actually drastically differed 5 months ago), showing artists i follow who mostly fit the same genre/mood--largely guys/gals i love & listen to everyday and 1 or 2 who only have 1 song i listen to but thats not a big deal--but today it was so inaccurate...it largely showed top trending hood/mumble rappers i dont even follow but used to listen to. this is a big deal cuz now when i listen to rap i care about lyricism or at least real topics, brags really get on my nerves and gang/murder related stuff (released 2018-present) is so torturous & cringey it makes me wanna tear my ears off! spotify also doesnt seem to acknowledge i love lyrical rap--no matter how much i listen to Eminem he never appears in the favorite artists section (even the accurate 1s)
it might also be the current mainstream music scene that affects my recommendations--if something currently dominates the industry it always shows up on my homescreen under "your taste/favorites" categories as long as ive listened to it before, even if not for months/years
i get really stressed when spotify wont admit i love Eminem or pop punk but happily claim i love music made for the streets like drill & hood rap
what do i actually love?

Play the music you want to listen to. It’s at your fingertips.
some days i just get nothing but generic rap & r&b with no alternative influences in my personal playlists, i looked at my niche mixes and there wasnt a single rock mix, just music some ruthless kid in the ghetto loves and every artist on my favorite artists list was a mumble rapper, if spotify thinks i only like hip hop why cant they admit i love Eminem!
no emo mixes, closest thing to emo was soft slow r&b which i dont like at all
What have I done. I almost cry. This is not related at ALL with my taste of music. Hated it since 2008, just find out he still arround and kicking and now im SAD. Why spotify. How can I block this recommendations?
Thank you.
Truly, I do not want to listen to the Rolling Stones Beast of Burden on every one of my Daily Mix and over half of my Radio Stations as the SECOND song in every category! Although I Liked the album, I didn't click Like for the song itself. This is an issue for many other songs as well. I have over 1600 liked songs and 97 artists and 400 albums (not that much compared to many of you out there, I know) in my library in 60's to the 2000's rock, punk, new wave, grunge, reggae, blues, jazz etc.
There is way too much song repetition being played in the categories. With a library that large, I would expect more diversity in the songs being curated. I do not want the hassle of making playlists every day, that is what live radio DJs and the Spotify AI is for.
I would like the option to prevent songs from playing more than once a week or other selectable time frame. I have had to actually click Don't Play This Artist just to prevent certain songs from being played everywhere. Hiding songs does NOT work!
I am tired of having to refresh over and over just to stop seeing an artist. I blocked one, and she was still recommended, so i had to turn off the music taste feature on the playlist entirely, which also sucks, because it doesnt give me any new songs, but it does keep away unrelated music.
It’s September 2024 is there a way now?
