Can I share a playlist of songs that I did not create on my personal blog?

Can I share a playlist of songs that I did not create on my personal blog?

I want to share songs from other artists that I don’t have rights to on my blog without having legal ramifications.

Hey there, welcome to the Spotify Community!

Regarding copyright, I think you need to consult a legal authority, the publisher/label, and the terms of use for their content. Even though this is kind of off-topic, you can embed playlists on your blog but you cannot use them explicitly for your content.

For example, you can share the link to the playlist but you cannot use it on your videos or other content. Sharing is allowed but explicit use is not unless you have the right to do so. If you are writing a Christmas blog and want to share a related Spotify playlist then you can do so but you cannot use the actual content (cover art, music, lyrics, etc) for your videos or claim credits. I would insist you go through the legal terms before proceeding to use their content.

Another thing to note is that any streaming service like Spotify does not hold all the rights to the content. The artist, label, etc. hold the content rights and they allow Spotify to distribute for consumption. This does not give the right for the users to take the content and use it for their own purpose.

Spotify is hosting the content in the playlist and they have the permission to have it on their platform. Sharing a playlist does not put you into any legal trouble.

If you are embedding or sharing a link to a Spotify playlist with songs in it on your website, then that should be fine as long as you do not take credit for creating the songs. And if you were not the one who created the playlist, then you cannot take credit for creating the playlist.

There are a lot of other websites online that embed and link to Spotify playlists so it is fine to do so as well if you would like to.
