Chick Corea died, and many recordings removed from Spotify

Chick Corea died, and many recordings removed from Spotify

What could be worse than losing Chick Corea this week?  Finding that many of his key recordings were removed from Spotify - most of the Akoustic Band and Elektric Band recordings have disappeared.  Not sure if this was done to reduce cost or just 'cause Spotify lost the rights, but darn it, Spotify, I needed my Chick playlist last night, and you let me down.

Hey @c6_xpgu-y5erd, thanks for reaching out to the Community!

Spotify wants all the world’s music and podcasts available, but availability can vary over time and between countries, depending on the permissions from rights holders.

More info about this can be found here.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the reply, but it's sad to remove so many of Chick's most popular recordings from several of his bands - "Akoustic Band" and "Elektric Band" just to save money.  There's also some strange behavior where my Chick Corea music is listed in Chinese rather than English where I can see the same songs and some of the missing ones on other people's playlists.

Hey @c6_xpgu-y5erd,

I understand.

The availability of content on the platform varies over time and between countries, depending on agreements between Spotify and rights holders, such as artists or record labels.

Spotify adds new content to Spotify every day, so if you can’t find this release right now, it may still reappear soon. Alternatively, you can always contact the artist or record label for more info or make use of the local files feature.

Hope this helps.

That's Japanese by the way

I stumbled across this thread after looking for Robben Ford's '& the Blue Line' and 'Mystic Mile' albums on Spotify. They are both on Chick's 'Stretch Records' label. And they also appear to be the only albums of Robben's not on Spotify. I'm guessing the removal of Chick's work reaches beyond his own recordings as a leader; it appears that whoever has taken over the label has also removed all artists' works recorded on that label?

EDIT: since commenting I see that Concord bought out Stretch? And maybe there's still an issue there? Either way, it appears to be a bit of a mess for Chick and his legacy for being discovered by generations to come.

Update: now EVERY SINGLE RECORDING from the Elektric Band and Akoustic Band is now gone. Every one. This is deplorable, Spotify. I don't care what your excuse is -- FIX THIS. Open up your wallets and get this remedied. This and the absence of other key artists from you platform is causing me to reconsider my premium subscription.
