Clunky User Experience

Clunky User Experience

I have a Dell Computer (11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM)**bleep** 1.50 GHz). I pay for premium in the USA. My browser is Chrome. Most of the time I use my iphone 12 (OS 17.3.1)

My Question or Issue

I switched over to Spotify from Youtube Music at the beginning of 2025 on the recommendation of a friend. I am very satisfied with the music collection- I have found a lot of new music. That said, the user experience is worse here. Using Spotify on a computer is to be confronted with a chaotic mess of different functions and options. Even if they all have a purpose, it's terrible design.

One clicks on icons like "Create New Folder" and nothing happens. There's a whole bunch of issues like that. To organize my music I am always having to do certain things on the computer and other things on the phone, because particular functions are not available or don't work on one of them.

I really dislike the wall between the home page and the library. I constantly look something up and get no results, only to realize it's because the search is happening only in my library instead of the all of Spotify. So I have to click out of the library back to the Homepage. Youtube Music did not do things like this- it was much more seamless.

Lastly, I hate how clicking on a new song just plays the song endlessly on a loop. The default should be to play other songs by the artist. Or at least I should be able to find that option easily, which I currently can't.

Sorry to be so cranky, but I'm thinking of switching back to Youtube Music as far as having a paid account because it's just a more simple, uncluttered experience.

Hey there @nsholmes21,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community! Happy to hear you've discovered new tunes and are enjoying the music 🙂

The search feature is expected to work in the way you're describing, providing different search fields for Your Library, the playlists, etc. This is to give more specific search results, depending on what you're looking for. You can think of search on top of Home screen as the global one, and the smaller one on the left in Your Library/on top of playlists as the more granular exploration of the Library.

We added the Library search after quite a few requests from our users. And if you'd like, you can create an Idea on functions or features that you'd would like to see an update for. This way, other users who feel the same way can leave a vote and show their support. You can read more on how ideas work on this page.

However, as I see that you're mentioning Chrome browser and that you're unable to create folders - just to confirm, does this happen both on the Web Player and in the desktop app? Do you notice any difference in other browsers?

In the app, you can also toggle on the Playlist filter in Your Library, so only playlists and folders are displayed (which can be switch off/changed at any time). It's also worth keeping in mind that the app has a few more settings and features available compared to the Web Player, such as sorting track order in playlists & audio quality settings.

On another note, the song that you mention is endlessly looping, it's possible that either Repeat or perhaps Autoplay is switched on. When the current play queue ends, the app will automatically play songs similar to the previous one while Autoplay is on.

As an option, if you'd like to play songs from a specific artist, is to head over to their artist page and press play from there. This will start off by playing their most popular songs. You can also choose to switch on Shuffle, which will play tracks from their discography in a random order.

Hope this clears things up!
