My Question or Issue

Posted 6 six screen captures of my Daily Mix #1 - and you can see in each capture the playlist changes over time. The last screen capture is several hours later - and it's changed again.  It seems to be affected when I'm casting - but I can't verify that as I mostly only cast.

Why does this happen?

Hi @Jemison,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for reaching out!

Daily mixes don't always update at the exact same time, but we'd like to investigate this further.

For this, it would be of great help if you could test if the same happens when you're not casting to your Chromecast. This can let us get more insights about this.

Also, do you have other devices such as a computer to check if the issue persists there?

Keep us posted.

Hi @MafeG,

I'm mostly WFH so I don't have many opportunities to listen continuously on headsets - but I will say that it's obvious when my daily mix updates because the welcome greeting "Good evening", "good morning", etc. changes right in line with the mixes.  For me, that is usually first thing in morning.

I often cast from android app, desktop, or a web browser.  When the unexpected updates happen, it doesn't seem to make any difference the source app that initiated the cast.  Also, I've observed the same behavior when using Spotify Connect.   I first observed this strangeness because I noticed that cast does not honor disliked songs - and when I open the app to try to skip the song, I also noticed that the playlist had completely changed!

When I first posted this issue - I used Daily Mix #1 to screenshot the evidence, but the same behavior had been occurring earlier that morning on another mix (I think Daily Mix #3).  I suspect this is related to casting - because this is my usual use of Spotify.

I have an original chromecast device as well as chromecast enabled speakers (they also have Spotify Connect).

Please let me know if there are logs, captures, etc I can collect to better help identify the source of the issue.

Thanks

Hey @Jemison,

Thanks for the reply and for the detailed info you've submitted.

We can confirm that the Daily Mixes are updating to try and recommend the best possible songs based on your recent music listening activity. This can happen on a regular basis, based on what you listen to and how much the Mix matches your estimated taste profile. If you're listening to music every day, the mixes might update more than once for 24 hours. There is currently no way to stop those mixes from updating and changing while you're listening to them, as this is done automatically by the Spotify recommendations algorithm.

Regarding the different songs you see on different devices - if you've hit Hide/ Don't like on a song, this song will only be hidden on that particular device. Hidden songs are not synched across devices, so this might explain why you sometimes hear songs that you've hidden on your phone when casting to another device.

Let us know if you have any more questions. We'll be happy to help.
