Daily Mix

Daily Mix

Hi there!

Is there any way to exclude 'a genre' (?) from your daily mix?

for instance, i do like listening "peaceful piano" playlist pretty often, but i'd like these music not to appear in my daily mixes.. so it wont be mixing up with any other genres i listen to.. the answer is obvious, i guess. but still..?

Hi @itsrustydude!

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

Daily Mixes include some of your liked songs and suggest some others similar to those ones. What I can suggest you is to not like "peaceful piano" songs so that the Spotify algorithm won't build your Daily Mixes on those genre of songs. This will not solve entirely your problem but it should help.

Cheers!

That is hardly an answer and I think that the Daily Mix algorithm should do a better job of building lists of songs based around a particular genre, and it does that for the most part. But not always very well.

For example one of my daily mix lists is usually all Surf Rock. (Space Cossacks, The Eliminators, Aqua Velvets, etc.) Another is mostly Metal (Epica, Delain, Kamelot, etc.)

Then it begins to breakdown.

One of my daily mixes includes Faun, a German folk band that I quite like at quiet times during the week.

Unfortunately that same mix also includes Eisbrecher, and Rammstein - both of those bands are Neue Deutsche Härte. That’s “New German Hardness” in English. Definitely NOT folk.

This would be like putting Peter Paul and Mary in the same playlist as Metallica and Black Sabbath because they are all singing in English.

I realize that Americans hate foreign languages but this is just stupid.  Lumping all of that music together because it is in German, doesn't make any sense to anyone who speaks more than one language. Which I realize is none of you.

Hi Itsrustydude,
I think that if you turn on "private session" mode while you're listening to peaceful piano then it will not count towards your musical interests. If you're interested, it'd be great if you upvote this idea... https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/All-Platforms-Playlists-Activate-private-session-permane...
If this live idea gets enough recognition then we'll be able to permanently set specific playlists to "private session" mode, so that they wont interfere with our musical interest algorithm. Hope I helped!
