My Question or Issue

Hi, as others have mentioned, my playback randomly stops after 9 seconds.  Now, what seems different to them, is that the playback only stops after an hour or two of continuous playing.  Then a song will stop after 9 seconds, and is then somewhat consisted; every 5th or 11th song will stop after 9 seconds.

Hitting the 'next' button starts the next one in the cue with no issue, until the 5th or 7th or 12 song..  (It's random, but will eventually happen.)

Restarting the browser will reset it to a continuous play of a few hours until that one song gets hit with the 9 second stop..

So, now when my playback stops after 9 seconds.  I just restart my browser.  I'll need to restart it about 2 or 3 times a day..

It's been happening for a few months now..

I've had that happen a number of times as well.

Hey @wogz,

Thanks for getting back to us in this thread! Let's investigate together.

Does this happen in the Web Player only or in the app as well and have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far? If the Web Player is affected, I recommend starting with clearing the cache and cookies in the browser and testing with a different internet connection.

For more advanced troubleshooting in case there's no difference, you can do the following:

  • Change your default DNS in your network settings - It seems CloudFlare (1.1.1.1) is not an ideal pick, so if you have that one, change it to another DNS provider. Based on reports, Google's (8.8.8.8) is working fine.
  • Disable VPN, proxies or ad-blockers - they're not supported and are known to cause playback trouble.
  • Switch to a different browser for the Web Player - Before, we've received reports that Firefox and Edge do not experience interruptions. As Edge is pre-installed on Windows, it's a good alternative to use. If you don't want to make it your default browser, you can just create a custom shortcut for the Spotify Web Player to open in that browser. A good guide on how to do so can be found here.

Keep us posted on how it goes 🙂
