Download Playlist to external drive

Hi,

I'll be travelling without internet for the next three months. My laptop has a mostly full SSD, and there does not appear to be a way to change the download location to an external hard drive. I did find the setting to change download location, but the file selection dialog doesn't list external drives, and trying to go via /media gives me a permission denied error. 

Is there something I can do?
