Artwork Not Showing For Local Files

Artwork Not Showing For Local Files

I'm an artist and I'm trying to switch to Spotify from Apple Music for staging my music for my own personal listening before actually publishing it. However, it's very frustrating that the album artwork isn't showing up even though I've made sure it's contained in the metadata. I've found earlier posts about this but it doesn't seem like it's been resolved. I'm using Premium on a MacBook Pro using MacOS 13.4

Including a screenshot showing that I can manipulate the artwork for a playlist but not actually for the songs within the playlist

Hi there @ixchestr,

Thanks for reaching about this in the Community!

Uploading local files is quite different than uploading your content on the Spotify platform as an artist, and you won't get the same experience. We'd recommend reaching out directly to our artist support team here with any further questions about uploading your music to the platform and managing your album cover art.

For local files, the cover art image can't exceed 300x300 px. Bigger images are the most common cause for the album art not to appear on local files. You can read more about how local files function on Spotify - here

Hope this info helps.

Hi! Yes, understood, I'm not trying to publish the files, just trying to have a good place to listen to them. I tried shrinking the cover art to 300x300 but it still wasn't showing up, is there something I should do to trigger Spotify to resync with the files so that it can read the artwork?

Hey @ixchestr,

Thanks for your reply and for the clarification.

In this case, we'd suggest you double-check the format of the album art and change if necessary to JPEG. We'd also recommend the file size be under 4 MB to check if, with those dimensions and format, you noticed any difference.

Once you've made the changes, disable the option to show local files under the app's settings. Then soft restart the app (close and then open it). After that, enable the local files in the app to see how it goes.

I added a bunch of songs through local files onto my android phone, and transferred the exact same files onto my iPad. On my phone, the album cover pictures show up, but on my iPad and Mac, it doesn't, it only shows a grey picture with a music note in the middle.

I've tried making the song picture dimensions smaller, reseting local files, and downloading the files from somewhere else but nothing has changed. I have also found that when I play the music from my iPad but play the sound through my phone, the album cover disappears.

Is this happening with anyone else??

For some of my songs the artwork just won't load no matter what i do. as you can see these are all apart of the same folder and on my laptop files it shows it does have the artwork but for these few songs it just won't show up on the app.

I'm trying to import local files from my Mac onto Spotify but the cover arts on some of them won't load. I've read that the images have to be less than 300x300 in size which I've tried however they still aren't loading.

Legaly obtained Mp3 files with front covers load the front cover into spotify correctly like on desktop but legaly obtained Mp4 files with front covers have the default icon as front cover

All files are downloaded as m4a's and had album covers attached in the Windows Media Player. Some had previously shown the album cover before I redownloaded them, so I don't believe it's due to the formatting. The files are downloaded onto my pc and synced to my phone. On the PC the album covers show fine, but they are not visible on my phone. Is there any way to get the photo to sync as well?
