My Question or Issue
The app is hoarding resources after a few minutes of use. I've tried reinstalling, deleting all caches, deleting all files related to spotify, everything mentioned on the forums, and still no luck.
The app works fine, but after a few minutes of use starts using ~99% of the processor and failing to quit.
Hey @gjacuna, thanks for writing!
Since the normal moving to trash method is not working, my first suggestion is that you download this free app cleaner:
http://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
When you open up the app, click the search icon and search for Spotify and it will automatically find and delete all files on your computer related to Spotify.
After that, download and reinstall Spotify.
Note: after you reinstall make sure to go into the Spotify settings and redo your preferences.
Hope this helps!
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue on my mac. If the spotify desktop app is started it consumes 100% of one CPU core. The Application seems to work. I'm able to play songs etc. If I want to quit spotify it has to be forced.
I tried to reinstall spotify and clean all directories (Application, Cache, Application Support) like described here:
https://support.spotify.com/de/article/reinstallation-of-spotify/
But it doesn't help.

Hey @qp82 thanks for writing!
Please try reinstalling by following the steps I gave on my previous answer. Trust me, it has helped a lot of users who went through similar issues 🙂
Hi RockStat21 thank you for your answer.
I removed it via the appcleaner tool your suggested. After reinstallation and login it's still the same. 😞
Thanks, but the problem is still there 😞
Since some other users also reported similar issues, the staff is investigating it and you can click here to be kept up-to-date.
Hope this is more helpful 🙂
Hey,
Just to give an update. I installed the latest Spotify app AFTER deleting caches and everything.
The problem is still there... Spotify taking 99% or more of CPU...
My spotify version is 1.1.6.113.gb388fe17
Should I just give up and listen from the browser? 😞
Hi
It is still the same. I tried a clean install of version 1.1.8.439.g8502297d.
Very frustrating
Have you tried the suggestions on the link bellow?

I suggest you to leave your comments on that thread so everyone involved can help you!
Hi @Bittencourt
I saw your link but this poroblem isn't related to the linked one for sure. They describe a crash after 20-30s. This is not the case here. Spotify works but it consumes CPU and it doesn't quit if you want to.
I'll leave a comment there. Maybe it helps.
Hey @qp82,
There's also this issue which seems to be the one you're facing.

Hi @Bittencourt
Thank you very much for your latest link. It solved my problem 🙂
I've done the following:
- Remove Spotify completely
- Install Version 1.0.64.399
- Start and Login to Spotify
- Upgrade to latest version
Hey @qp82, I'm glad I could finally help you 🙂
Let me know if anything comes up!
Hi!
I tried the steps on the link, but the app doesn't crash... It just starts using the CPU to 99%+ and wasting my battery away. This happens either immediately after starting the app or minutes or hours later, and it doesn't matter if I'm listening or not. The app remains responsive, and seems to work normally (apart from the fact that it acts like it's mining cryptocurrencies).
I've updated to the latest version (1.1.9.383.g9f48828e), wipe cleaned the installation many times, and yet the problem remains.
Hi @ gjacuna
Please try to do the following steps:
- Remove Spotify completely (AppCleaner)
- Install version 1.0.64.399 (Exactely this Version! Google the number to download it)
- Start and login to Spotify
- Upgrade to latest version
This solved my CPU issue.
Same issue as been reported here as well:
Sounds like quite a few macOS users are affected by this issue, let's hope some dev/mod acknowledges it soon!
