My Question or Issue

Hi, since downloading the latest Spotify update I have experienced extremely slow response times when pressing play on any song. Everything else in the app runs same as always very fast, however, when I press play on a song seemingly everything freezes then after about 5-10 seconds the song I told to play starts playing. The little play button that I press as well gets frozen in the animation even if I'm not hovering over it or still pressing play on it. If I'm currently listening to a song when I press play on another, the music still plays for those 5-10 seconds however every visual element freezes. The timeline at the bottom of the screen freezes on the song that's still playing until Spotify finally starts playing the next track. Help would be appreciated on this its making the whole experience of using the app very sluggish and annoying. Even if everything else works just as fine as before.

The attached video demonstrates the delay and how the app becomes fully unresponsive in the seconds it takes to start playing the song i requested

I have experienced the same. On Windows, when I click on any song in a playlist or what not, it is SEVERELY slow in response. It is a VERY noticeable delay and this has been like this since the last update. Its almost to the point I cant use it. My phone app has no issue, this is all the Windows version. It like a delay was inserted when choosing to play songs 😞

Hey guys,

Thank you so much for letting us know @pmeador and to you @noiseuse for posting the thread and for sending a video with your post. We`ll look into this together ok?

You mentioned this happened after the last Spotify update, on both Apple and Windows devices. We tried reproducing this on our end and were unable to do so.

We would advise you to try to perform a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article, after doing so you`ll have a fresh new version of Spotify and it should have the problem fixed, as all files that might have been updated incorrectly will be renewed.

Let us know if that helped out, we`ll be on the lookout!

A potentially faster solution is to go to Settings>Storage>Cache. There you can see how big the cache folder is folder is – mine was 7gb... Cleared the cache – and now it runs like rocket 🚀

I've been having this problem for months (on Mac OS) and the clean reinstall fixed it!

Never mind, the problem returned after a while.
