If I delete songs on my computer (MacBook Air), will they stay on the Local Files tab in Spotify?

Solved!

If I delete songs on my computer (MacBook Air), will they stay on the Local Files tab in Spotify?

I don't have a lot of storage on my computer (120 gigs) and my music takes up a big portion of it, I want to delete them to make more storage but still want to be able to find them easily.

Hello,

It's your cached files that take up this much space, just re-install spotify and it will be cleared (I also have a Macbook Air and do this once every 2-3 months just to be sure)

Here's how to:

  1. Click Spotify in the menu bar then Quit Spotify.
  2. Open Finder then click Go > Library in the menu bar. (You may need to hold the Alt key if Library isn’t visible).
  3. Open Caches and delete the com.spotify.Client folder.
  4. Click the back arrow.
  5. Open Application Support and delete the Spotify folder.
  6. Download and install Spotify.

EDIT: It's possible to just delete your caches, just tested. That way you don't have to completely re-install.

Let me know if this helped!

I don't even see my spotify songs popping up in my files. I don't understand.

Once deleting the songs, the "cache" will disappear after a short while but seeing as you need an instant fix, click on Preferences, click advanced, find your Persistent Cache folder.

Then click Finder on your dock, click Command + Shift + G and type that Path when prompted and delete the folder. Woo! Restart Spotify and everything should be spick and speck.
