Shortcuts & Function Keys (Mac) stop working after computer sleeps

OK - here goes:

Plan: Premium (Family)

Country: US

Device: iMac 27-inch, 5K, Late 2015 model

Operating System: Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6

Spotify Version: 1.1.10.540.gfcf0430f

My Question or Issue

I put my computer to sleep each night. After doing that, when I restart Spotify, the function keys on the top of my Apple keyboard (extended model with number pad) do not work to start and stop playback.

If I force-quit/relaunch the Finder, then the keys work again.

Looking for a solution to this issue.
