Spotify app takes forever to start

Spotify runs fine on most of my home devices (Windows laptop, Android phone, etc). But on my work iMac at the office, the app takes forever to start. When I open Spotify from my dock, it opens promptly, but the window itself is just a black square with no songs, library, or anything. Just a solid black box with the close/minimize/full screen buttons in the top left corner. Sometimes I'm lucky and the program eventually loads after a few minutes, but it usually takes much longer for my library to actually appear (I just gave up after waiting for over 45 minutes). How can I fix this?

Thanks for your post here in the Community and welcome!

 

In this case, we'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This will clear all cache that could be affecting the proper behavior of the app and ensure you're using the latest version. You can also try disabling Hardware Acceleration from the app's settings.

 

Additionally, could you check if you have the same issue while using the Web Player on that same computer?

Sorry for the delayed response - I was away from the office for holidays. This seems to have worked. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it develops. I didn't check the web player though.
