Spotify doesn"t start with Yosemite

Solved!

Spotify doesn"t start with Yosemite

Hi everyone!

Since I updated my Macbook to OS X Yosemite my spotify doesn't even start. After breefly showing the LogIn screen it shuts down. I also can't reinstall spotify, because the installer won't start. It's the same problem there.

I have a premium account and now I can only use my Spotify on my iPhone paying 9,99 Euros for it.

What can I do?

Please help me 😞

Best

Chiara

Hey @cikichiara

Sorry to hear of your troubles with Yosemite and Spotify. No fears, (I know it's almost Halloween) I'm at hand to help out 🙂

When reinstalling try doing so by downloading the installer again from https://www.spotify.com/download/mac/

How's that help out?

If you still have troubles, make sure that all the files listed in the below link are removed from the mac:

Let us know how that helps 🙂

Ha! Ha! It works again ❤️

...what the problem was: by just deleting spotify (pulling it out of the launchpad so it disappears) it never really deleted spotify.

now what I did: I restarted my Mac, then started "App Cleaner", an application that I downloaded from the internet. I opened it and searched spotify. wow, there still was a lot of spotify on my computer. so now I deleted it all with the app "app cleaner". and then I deleted everything in my trash. Then I restarted my computer again. I downloaded spotify and installed it.

worked for me 🙂

Hi there,

I have the same problem. My Spotify shuts down before it even opens. The link above did not work for me. Any other idea how to solve this problem?

Thanks

Hey @Itsallgood

When you say the link didn't work, is it a case the link itself was dead/didn't load or the steps here didn't help?

In case of the later, here are the steps for you:

1. Click Spotify in the menu bar, then Quit Spotify.
2. Open Finder then click Go > Library in the menu bar. (You may need to hold the Alt key if Library isn’t visible).
3. Open Caches and delete the com.spotify.Client folder.
4. Click the back arrow.
5. Open Application Support and delete the Spotify folder.
6. Go to http://www.spotify.com/download and reinstall Spotify.

Don’t worry about losing your favorite songs - all your playlists will be waiting for you when you sign in again. You’ll just need to redownload any previously synced music.

Let us know how it all goes 🙂

whatever i do, it just does not want to work. Is there something else I can try? Otherwise i will have to quit my premium account. I don't want to pay 10 Euro for just using the webplayer (which by the way does not work very well i think).

so please help me

So, ever since I upgraded to Yosemite with my Mac, Spotify refuses to open. I've tried reinstalling it twice now. Is it just not compatible?

I'm having all the same problems as the people above.  Nothing seems to fix it so that I can open Spotify.

Help!!

My spotify is the same! I hope mac or spotify find a solution soon!!!

Hey guys!

Sorry to read that you're having troubles still. Not cool at all but we'd love to help.

Just to check with you, have you tried deleting the specified folders detailed above (Application support and Cache)? For a complete reinstall, I'd certainly recommend removing these.

Let me know.

In my library ther is no com.spotify.Client folder so I can't delete it......I've tried reinstalling and emptying my trash. Doesn't work.

Hmm, that's strange. Just to check, under Library it should be located in 'Caches'. Do you see it here?

Also, remove the Spotify file that is located in the 'Applications Support' folder in Library. Do you see that?

I'd love to get things sorted for you.

No, in the folder caches are only apple files and spotify fles in the application support folder either.

Are you using Yosemite?

Yes, that's why iit says " Spotify doesn't start with Yosemite"

I've done that, temporarily fixed the issue - now it's doing exactly the same.  Are Spotify looking into this? WHen can we expect a patch?  I've been a premium customer, but weeks of this sort of problem means I'm likely to go elsewhere in future.

my boyfriend just got a new mac with Yosemite os and Spotify won't open, start or even successfully install once downloaded (it always says "installation failed" and we've tried 5 times) we tried deleting the cache and other files mentioned above with no result. It is unacceptable that the only solution mentioned on this entire board is to run Mac Cleaner or whatever in order to make Spotify work. How about just being able to download it and use it like before? Well we are listening to Pandora now instead of Spotify and will continue to do so until it becomes possible to listen to Spotify again. Real shame, we used to like Spotify a lot. Spotify, you really need to address this or you will lose customers forever.

Hey @caliway

Very sorry to hear that you're having troubles with installing things here.

Have you tried the steps suggested in the Solution on the previous page?

http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/Spotify-doesn-quot-t-start-with-Yosemite/...

How does that help here?

I've tried all the suggestions I could find. The only thing that works is a Beta version of Spotify.

Yes we tried ALL of that

Will try the beta version. Though I still think it sucks that you have to go to beta and can't just use the regular version
