Spotify taking up 100% CPU power because of... announcements?

My laptop once again wanted to take flight and because only Spotify was running on it, I decided to try and find out what's causing this major CPU hit (has been happening for years now). I've found the culprit to be the announcements area which is somehow taking up all processor power. If I turn it off, Spotify hardly uses any processing power anymore.

Which is completely **bleep**, imho. I'm seeing some animated Mariah Carey Christmas thingie and it's killing my system.... While being a premium user. It would be great if you could optimize the announcement thingie because this is just sad.
