Hi,
i downgraded from Premium to free and now i'm unable to listen to playlists (mine or Spotify) even in shuffle mode.
One track begin to play and 1 second later a message says (translated from french): Impossible to play the selected track.
I understand that i can't do whatever i did with the premium account but i would like to listen to some music at least 🙂
Spotify Desktop v0.9.14.13, mac OS X 10.10

When you go to Edit -> Preferences, could you please check if 'High quality streaming' is checked. If yes, please uncheck it.
High qaulity streaming is only available for premium users, and I guess it's still enabled at the Spotify application.

I'm in the same situation, downgrade from spoti premium.I tried to do what you say but I still have this problem. I have the latest version of Mac OS El Capitan. I tried too reinstall and logout and nothing... what can i do?

I have the same problem, kind of. I didn't downgrade anything though, cuz I was using Spotify Free for several months now without any issue. But since yesterday, I can't use the desktop-player anymore, cuz it won't play anything. It just keeps on switching to the next track, then it says "Can't play this title" and goes on to the next track etc.
I already tried reinstalling it, with and without restarting my system, didn't cange... Oh and I am using Windows 10 (it already worked on that sytem before, so changing from 8.1 to 10 was obviously not the root of the problem either 😞 )
Til then I am forced to use the Webplayer, so I hope you/we can find a solution 😜

having the same issue since my Premium run out. High Quality streaming is disabled, even with another account, it wont play certain songs. On my android tablet everything is fine. Would be nice if someone could help.

Dominique, I have the exact same problem as you. My desktop player keeps displaying "Can't play selected track". I've tried reinstalling but nothing seems to help.
I had the exact same problem as you guys before me, but I just found a solution:
Uninstall Spotify and then re-install it 😉 Did the trick
New day, after several re-installs it works now fine.
still not working for me... 4 reinstalls and counting it's getting a wee bit frustrating 😞
