"None of your Facebook friends are on Spotify"

I just recently signed back on to Spotify and downloaded the desktop application to my Mac. At first I could not get my login to work via the Login with Facebook button, but then I read a workaround to create an application specific password on Facebook and then login using that in Spotify. Since then everything has been working fine as far as logging in and playing music, however when I try to find my Facebook friends I just get a message that says "None of your Facebook friends are on Spotify". The friends I had previously still show up in my feed but I can't seem to add any more friends because it tells me that none of them are on Spotify (even though I know they are). I have tried disconnecting the application via Facebook and then logging back in but that does not fix the issue. Any ideas what causes this?

I'm having the same problem but in reverse - none of my facebook friends can find me even though I'm connected to facebook. They can only find me by typing in my username rather than typing my actual name. I dont know if that's just the way I've signed up to spotify or something else??
