serious concern - iTunes library still being read by Spotify DESPITE my preferences

i've switched from listening to my music through itunes to spotify. as a result, i deleted my entire itunes library to save space on my laptop.

since, i have been unable to play any song that was previously in my itunes library in spotify until i re-download it from my purchases list from my itunes account.

i am very concerned about this as i have had 'show songs from itunes' under 'local files' disabled from the moment i downloaded the application.

why, despite my preferences, is spotify still able to read the contents of my itunes library. this is a serious issue that needs addressing NOW.
