BUG: cpu usage of Spotify desktop UI is stuck at 50% when idling

BUG: cpu usage of Spotify desktop UI is stuck at 50% when idling

With version 1.2.13.661 The CPU usage of the chrome thread for the UI is using around 50% CPU usage even when idling in the background.  I can kill the relevant Spotify process/thread, and it will cause the UI to reload.  I tested downgrading, and it seems that version 1.2.9.743 still has this issue, but 1.2.8.923 does not have this issue.

I have only observed this issue intermittently within the last few weeks, so I think must have been some feature that only recently got enabled.

I have high CPU usage on the desktop version of the app. But it only starts when i have an application running in fullscreen or borderless window. Constant stuttering while having a for an example a game running, spotify is not stuttering with either video or audio. Only the other applications. Clean install of latest Spotify did not help.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Sorry to hear that you're getting such high CPU usage when playing music with the desktop app. In order to look further into this, can you provide us with the following info:

  • Windows version
  • Spotify app version
  • Screenshot of your Task manger processes/ performance when this is happening
  • Does it happen with any content - songs/ podcasts?
  • When did you first notice this happening?

Note that this issue could be caused by some Windows update or outdated driver, so it's a good idea to check if there are any pending Windows updates and let those install. The same goes for your video card and sound drivers. We've had cases in the past where an outdated Nvidia gpu driver was causing similar issues.

Keep us posted on this.

I am having very similar issues after receiving an update today. I had to sign in to the new app when i restarted my PC today. It happens when songs or podcasts are playing. All drivers have been update through windows update and Dell Command.
