Canvas is crashing my monitor

Canvas is crashing my monitor

Hi, every time I open the app on my desktop, it crashes my external monitor. The issue seems tied to the Canvas feature. When a song with Canvas enabled plays, the crash happens immediately. I disabled Canvas for songs, but the home screen also uses it, and there’s no way to turn it off. An option to disable Canvas entirely or a fix for the issue would help.

I reposted this because Spotify merged my issue with unrelated ones, claiming it’s due to a USB-C to HDMI converter, which I don’t use. I bought a new HDMI 2.1 cable, but the problem persists. It only happens with Canvas—whether in songs, podcasts, or the home screen. The monitor crashes instantly, then restarts after 10–20 seconds. If I don’t quickly switch to a playlist, it crashes again.

It’s worth mentioning that the issue doesn’t occur when I use my desktop PC with the same monitor or when I use my laptop with a different monitor. This suggests the problem is specific to the combination of my laptop, my monitor, and the Canvas functionality. The monitor I am using is the MSI Optix MAG272CQR.

SOLUTION EDIT:

I believe I’ve found the solution! I changed the refresh rate of my monitor from 144Hz to 120Hz, and the issue no longer occurs. I’m glad it’s resolved, but it seems quite odd.
