New desktop app annoyance

New desktop app annoyance

Upon restarting my desktop app, I see there's a new side panel with an arrow to indicate expansion of the side panel (see attachment). Spotify has been pushing this big time and it's nothing but an annoyance. The poorly reworked UI is bad enough as it is, but this change results in cramming the middle panel even further and is absolutely unnecessary. Push all you want, I refuse to use it.

I guess it's too much to ask Spotify to actually improve things and give users features that will actually improve the desktop experience.

We were previously allowed to drag tracks from the application into something like Microsoft Excel, which let us paste artist and track info, but for some bizarre reason this functionality has long been removed. Keeping backups of playlists should be an a given for any music streaming app. There any countless people like myself who have playlists with thousands of songs. It's simply not good enough to only offer the song link to be copied and not the artist/track details. I'm not sure if Spotify has communicated why this option was removed, but when you complain they laughably suggest you do a feature request.

And of course they moved the play queue from the middle panel to the side panel. Complete and utter downgrade.

The sad reality is Spotify doesn't care about the user experience. You can be sure any changes made inside the apps are not done with users in mind.

Introduce new features by all means, but give those of us who don't like them an option in Preferences to turn them off.

Spotify for me used to be fun, and music discovery was a pleasurable experience. Now, sadly, I have lost interest in trying to discover new music, mainly due to the hassle of maintaining my own playlists (I add artist/track details manually into my own spreadsheet). I've pretty much given up with it in that respect.
