My Question or Issue

If I have another program in fullscreen mode (often a video game), the desktop app does not continue to the next track after finishing the current track. The progress bar stays at the end of the track and no audio plays.

This does not happen for the web version, which I am using because of this issue.

Hey there @conorle,

Thanks for reaching out.

Would you mind confirming when this started to happen? Was it after an app or system update?

Also, have you already tried a clean reinstall of the app to see if that makes a difference?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

I couldn't tell you exactly when this started, but definitely within the past few months (some time after ~Aug).

I have not updated my OS recently, but the issue may be due to the Spotify app updating.

A clean reinstall did not fix the issue.

Also, I am using the Spotify app from the Windows Store, not an installer from the Spotify website.

Hi @conorle,

Thanks for getting back to us with this info.

You mentioned you downloaded the Windows Store version of the app, but have you already tried with the installer from the Spotify website just to see if you notice any change?

If that doesn't work either, could you send over a video or a screen recording where we can take a better look at what's happening? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor, or you can upload it to Google Drive or YouTube and send a link to it.

Also, let us know the exact Spotify version currently running on your desktop.

We'll be on the lookout.

Apologies for the very late response.

I have confirmed the same problem  happens in the same way on both the Windows Store version and the Spotify direct download version of the app.

I have taken a video of the issue; it is too large to upload as an attachment here, so you can find the video at the following Google Drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gLKhBVf-sDu0zeNU43Z0M_ZUxyFVBHeD/view?usp=sharing

Hey there @conorle,

Thanks for your reply and for all the info shared.

We really appreciate the time you took to make the video. In this case, we'd suggest you make sure all your audio drivers are up-to-date, since that proved to help other users with similar issues.

Another thing you can try is going into windows settings and change which monitor is set to primary and which to secondary. On some systems, this will have an effect on some apps.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to continue gathering info. Please send us:

  • Does this happen when you open a different game?
  • As mentioned above, please send us the exact Spotify version you're running there.

Keep us in the loop!
