My Question or Issue

"Spotify Connect not finding 3rd party casting devices other than google nest"

I have just tested out some extensive trials.

Hardware:

3x Lenovo Smart Clock gen 2

2x Google Nest Mini

Settings:

All defaults and no firewalls or NAT or anything.

The google products has no issues at all but the issues are with the 3rd party product running on google assistant.

1. The issue seems to be limited to the Windows/Linux app only

2. The Android/iOS apps seems to be good and shows all the casting devices (3rd party too)

3. Changing DNS has no effects.

4. Web player (chrome only) shows all the casting devices (3rd party too). Here it relies on the browsers functions to find and connect to the casting devices.

5. Other applications which has the casting ability can find and cast to the devices perfectly but its just Spotify which cannot

My verdict is something is gravely wrong with the back-end Dev of APP itself which Spotify should take is seriously.

Hey there @T_Abraham,

Thanks for posting here and for the info!

To see if it'll make a difference, here are some steps to check if you haven't already:

  • Check if the option "Enable hardware acceleration" is turned on. If so > turn it off > restart PC > try again.
  • At the moment, it's possible to download the app both from the Microsoft Store and our Web page. The two apps have slight differences and the one from the MS store is optimized for Windows use and may not have this error. Please follow the steps for a clean reinstall here and then try with the app version you don't currently have.
  • Turn on Network discovery: If you open File Explorer, go to Network, and see an error message ("Network discovery is turned off…."), you'll need to turn on network discovery to see devices on the network that are sharing files. To turn it on, select the Network discovery is turned off banner, then select Turn on network discovery and file sharing.
  • Mark the connection for the home network as a "Private Network" in Windows by following these instructions from Microsoft: Make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows - Restart Windows and Spotify and see if that helps.

Thanks for the cooperation. Let us know how it goes!

Hey @Elena,

Thanks for the tips. although all those steps were done beforehand but I tried out those steps and combinations again for versions of the APP (Windows and the Default Spotify) but none of them solved the issues. I can see my devices in the Newtork but for some reason spotify cannot. Spotify has full access to the private network also

Hey @T_Abraham,

Thanks for your reply.

As a next step, can you please try resetting the devices? This usually helps with such issues.

Keep us posted.
