Spotify Doesn't play songs that also have local content

I'm having a problem with my desktop Spotify where it won't play certain artists or songs. They work on the web player at home and at work. I think the problem may be that I have the files locally on my home PC in a file type that Spotify may not recognize. When I try to play it a blue box up top says "This song is not available. If you have it on your computer you can import it". I've tried turning off the link between Spotify and my local files, deleting the bnk file in the appdata, and restarting my computer. I even tried to uninstall Spotify to fix this problem.
