Spotify doesn't remembering songs

Recently, from around mid 2016, whenever spotify is restarted or opened after restarting my computer it doesn't remember the last song I played.  It always defaults to the same song (which I do not know how it is chosen, seems pretty random).

This issue has become a pretty big issue late 2015 early 2016 (from all the posts in the forum I found when I tried to find a solution).  But I have seen the issue arise as early as 2014.  I have found the main solution is to reinstall spotify.  I have reinstalled spotify multiple times and the issue is resolved for a few days, but comes back in the end either way.

This issue doesn't affect my usage of spotify at all since songs are still playing and I am still able to save songs, but it does affect my experience since it is a big annoyance when listening to discover weekly, which I love.
