I've been using the "create similar playlist" function as a way to discover new music and its been such a great tool, much more effective than simply going to a song radio. I've only been able to use this function on my desktop but now can't even seem to do that on there now. Was this function completely removed? If so, that's a huge bummer.
Both my friend and I contacted Spotify support 2 days ago about the missing Create Similar Playlist feature cause of how crucial it is to have we use Spotify. We were both told that it was purposely removed, and my friend was told it was supposed to be replaced by the Smart Shuffle feature.
Here’s their post they started about it: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Create-Similar-playlist-gone/idc-p/5702117#M274202
Why is it no longer active "create a similar playlist". This was possible before and it was an excellent feature how to quickly create a similar playlist to my original.
Hey @Negativ1,
We moved your post from Ideas to the Help boards, hope you don't mind 🙂
The function "Create a similar playlist" should still available on the desktop app and the Web Player!
Right-click on any of your personally-created playlists and look for the option in the drop-down menu.
In case you don't see it, let us know on which platform this is occurring on and we'll gladly take a further look at how we can resolve this for you 🙌🏼
Many thanks!
Hi @Wanderfuljes,
Welcome to the Spotify Community!
Our tech folks are often testing and launching improvements to the app. This means you might occasionally see something your friend doesn’t, or get a new feature to try temporarily. Your feedback is important and valuable to us, thanks for sharing it! Rest assured it has been forwarded to the relevant team.
In the meantime, another method of discovering new music you can try out is Smart Shuffle. More info here.
The Community is always here if something else comes up.
Cheers!
I have just updated my Spotify app on MacOS, and I'm facing the same issue as you. Unfortunately, it seems Spotify is eliminating some of the great features we used to have for discovering new music since the Song/Artist Radio options are getting worse over time. They decided to link song genres to the artist's genres, which doesn't help much when finding new music, especially if the artist plays multiple genres or instruments.
Bad decisions.
Not much of an issue but more of a question, I just don't know where to post this, so I'll post it here.
I would like to know what happened to the "Create Similar Playlist" feature? It seems to have disappeared from the options for playlists, at least for me.
I'm looking for this feature too. I used this function daily.
Hello,
I have the same issue, I dont see the 'create a simliar playlist' function on web-based Spotify or on the Desktop app. I have a premium account for both type of Spotify players
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I just recently used this feature too.
Spotify would generate a playlist full of similar recommended songs (about 150) based on whatever is in the original playlist. I thought it replaced the "Create album radio" option that was removed.
Same for me, just vanished, why do they keep stripping any useful functionality from this app, and keep adding useless-marketing-related bloat?

same here! please bring it back
This is exactly why Spotify is becoming a joke. Every time you turn around they have deleted a feature. I pay for Spotify based on a current iteration, so removing features one has previously paid for is a bait-and-switch fraud.
I am on a web browser and have premium, it has been missing for a while and is still currently missing.
Yep, I've been trying it for a while, and nothing. No more creating a simliar playlist
I'm also experiencing the issue, and it's a huge bummer. This is the first time I've considered leaving Spotify.
Honestly same. Losing the 'liked' songs function on the app was a huge loss, but losing this too makes it feel not even worth using Spotify anymore. Every feature that actually made me enjoy using them is getting removed.

I have the same issue. I've tried it using the desktop app in Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. The "create similar playlist" option is totally gone and I miss it! Please bring it back!
There have been some positive UI changes recently, like managing songs in playlists, by being able to add to, and remove, from multiple playlists at a time, which is something I have been waiting for, for a long time.
Why we would need to get rid of the "create similar playlist" button, which was just one more option in a context menu, is a mistery to me - it was way better than smart shuffle.
