how to add friends to spotify without facebook and username

I have tried to search up spotify:user:username however, all i can do is follow that person. i don't get the "add person" button. i want to know what the person is listening to, and i can only do that by adding them to my friends list. i have done it before without facebook. can anyone please help?

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

The users you follow in the app will show up in the Friend Activity, so you're doing the correct thing by following their profiles - they just need to have Share my listening activity on Spotify toggled on in the app's settings. If they don't show up, they probably haven't listened to anything recently. As soon as they do, their activity will be reflected in the app.
