is there a difference in sound between free and premium?

Not sure where to post this. There seems to be no exact place for such a simple question:

is there a difference in sound between free and premium? What I am hearing here does not seem to be as good as rdio, or maybe it's just a coincidence based on what I've played.

I had read about the high quality but thought that perhaps it was only for downloading and not necessarily for streaming.

Would you happen to know precisely what the difference is? What I mean is for ex. in normal we hear the equivalent of MP3 98kbps while in premium we'd be listening to MP3 256kbps..

Yes 🙂 Free users will hear standard quality on your computer, which is about 160 kbps, and premium users who turn on high quality listening can hear music at 320 kbps, more details here 🙂
