My Question or Issue

i have some songs that I like that aren't on spotify so I placed them (the files are on my desktop) in a spotify playlist and set the playlist to download on my oppo find x5 pro and lenovo laptop, but spotify only downloads these local songs on my oppo find x5 pro, despite all three devices being on the same network

Not a solution, but recently i’ve had the same issue on laptop with local files and them not downloading onto my Spotify local files folder. It definitely used to, so I’m not sure why it stopped working but oh well.

To combat this, (not sure if will work on an Oppo), but on iPhone there is a Files App, and within that there is a spotify folder. I downloaded my music files to my phone, into the files app. Then i moved the music downloads into the “Spotify” Folder that was pre-existing on the app, reloaded my Spotify App on my phone and they showed up in the local files folder.

Ensure in your Spotify Settings, in Local Files, the ‘Show Audio Files from this device’ notch is turned on. Possibly you could use Google Drive or similar and put the files from your PC onto your phone in google drives, and then from google drives onto your device storage, I’m thinking Oppo would have a similar storage system with a “files” like app. Hope this makes sense and good luck 🙂

**Edit** Reread your reply and saw they’re already in a playlist in spotify, and i’ve also had that happen with it not showing up on my phone. I would still download the files onto your phone which is unfortunately an annoying extra step but it may help them show up on your phone (technically you’d probably have two sets of the same song, one on your laptop and one on your phone, but i guess that’s a temporarily solution if all else fails haha)

Hi @YeetDabMcFapDab!

In addition to what @sweetcreature has suggested, I'd recommend performing a clean reinstall > restarting your phone > downloading the playlist again. This seems to do the trick for Android devices.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

I meant that spotify doesn't download the songs on my laptop, not on my phone

that reminds me I had the same problem on another laptop I was lended for class last year

Hey @YeetDabMcFapDab,

The steps for a complete clean reinstall, suggested by @Yordan also apply to desktop devices.

I'd recommend going over them to make sure there are no leftover files from older app installations.

And, on another topic, do you by any chance use any VPN services? VPN can interfere with the app functionality.

If possible, in case the issue persists after the reinstall, I'd also advise checking if using a different internet connection would make a difference.

Keep in mind that all audio files need to be locally present on the desktop device. More info on this can be found here 🙂

Keep us posted on how things go!

placed all my desktop local songs in one playlist

turned off nordvpn on both desktop and laptop

connected both desktop and laptop to same network

even clean reinstalled  on both desktop and laptop and spotify on my laptop still won't download or play the local songs from my desktop which are in a spotify playlist

Thanks for keeping us in the loop @YeetDabMcFapDab,

Even if the devices are on the same network, it's currently not possible to sync Local Files between 2 computers, only between a PC and mobile. We're sorry for the misunderstanding here!

In this case, you'll need to copy the actual files over to your other computer and enable the Local Files function in the settings there.

We'll be right here if anything else comes to mind.

i actually did but for some reason the local songs from my desktop are considered by spotify as different than the ones in the laptop's music folder despite being the exact same files

Hey @YeetDabMcFapDab

Thanks for your reply.

Could you send over some screenshots where we can see how the local files are displayed on both PCs? You can attach them to your next response by using the Insert image option in the post editor. Make sure not to send any private info.

We'll be on the lookout.

Thanks for the screenshots, @YeetDabMcFapDab!

We recommend re-downloading the Spotify app once again directly from our web page.

We also want to mention once again that even if your devices are on the same network, it's currently not possible to sync Local Files between 2 computers. For the moment, you can only sync the files between a PC and mobile. With this said, we can unfortunately not guarantee that it will always work well.

We're here if you need help with anything else.
