Hi all,
Last month, @osornios posted a thread inviting artists on the Community to tell us about themselves and submit one of their most recent songs to be potentially featured on a Community Blog. In case you missed it, you can find the submissions thread here.
The Music Team have reviewed the submitted tracks, resulting in 4 finalists (as two songs were tied).
Here we present these 4 finalist songs, so that you (members of the Spotify Community) can vote for your favorite(s) and collectively decide on the winner! The finalist songs are (artists listed by alphabetical order):
"Jack" by Clinton Skibitzky
Based in Winnipeg, Canada, Clinton Skibitzky plays pop/rock that can be both quirky and poignant. Inspired by artists such as Billy Joel, Elton John, Bruce Hornsby, Depeche Mode, Tom Waits, Queen, and Hot Hot Heat, Clinton Skibitzky released his debut album in March 2021, entitled With a Lot of Help from My Friends. “This is a collection of songs I have written over the past 15 years, with lots of help on vocals, guitar, etc by some of my best friends (I play keyboards and sound like Kermit the Frog when I try to sing). Without their help this would be a poorly sung collection of rough tunes... hence the title of the album 'With a lot of Help From My Friends,'” Skibitzky says about the album.
You can find Clinton Skibitzky on Youtube here, in addition to on Spotify.

"Flowers" by Espanglish
Based in Mexico City, Mexico, Espanglish play a genre of music they describe as “Funklore.” “We mix traditional music and Latin music with electronic resources and sounds of twentieth century black music. Our lyrics are written in English and Spanish and talk about love, unity, tolerance and female empowerment,” the band says about their sound and lyrical themes.
Inspired by artists such as Poolside, Bob Marley, Mano Negra, Disclosure, Paul Simon, Bomba Estereo, LCD Soundsystem, David Byrne, Calle 13, Daft Punk, Perez Prado, Gorillaz, Major Lazer, Flaming Lips, and Manu Chao, Espanglish formed as a band in May 2019. By September of the same year, they had won a grant from the Canadian government to record a complete album, produced by Howard Redekkop (Tegan and Sara, Mother Mother, The New Pornographers); and since the pandemic began, they started releasing singles from that production as an independent band.
You can find Espanglish on Instagram here, in addition to on Spotify.

"The Way" by Magnus Ardhammar
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Magnus Ardhammar plays SynthPop and SynthRock. Inspired by artists such as Depeche Mode, Garbage, John Williams, Hanz Zimmer, Miriam Bryant, Erasure, Laleh, and Gorillaz, Ardhammar’s music varies and mixes between pop/rock and more electronic, ambient and classical movie/game score genres. Magnus Ardhammar likes to create a cinematic feeling in his music; and while his submitted track (“The Way”) is more of a pop/synthwave song, his newest release from December 10th, 2021 (“I’m Better Now”) is more of a rock song.
“Started doing music in my early years with my Amiga 500 and expanded that with lessons in guitar playing. After I was finished with school I stopped doing music for some reason and started digging into movie making and script writing instead. Today I'm a father of two who is working at one of Sweden's largest TV-stations. The pandemic brought me back to my interest in music making, so my desk is work at day and music studio at night. So, i’m kinda like Batman… a little bit,” Ardhammar says.
You can find Magnus Ardhammar on Instagram here, in addition to on Spotify.

In addition to his submitted song, "Looking Forward," Nel Aique also released a new track on December 10th 2021, entitled “Magical Dance.” “It’s my best song by now,” Aique says about his latest single.
