Ability change speed/pitch of song

Hey everyone!

I think it would be an amazing feature to be able to speed up/slow down songs natively in the app. This would obviously also affect the pitch of the desired song(s). Meaning, it doesn't sound like the YouTube player where it just speeds it up without changing the pitch. In reality, it would actually sound nice. It would be very helpful, in my opinion, to re-listen to the same song, but almost from a different perspective. As you know, some songs sound really good sped up or slowed down. There are hundreds of user accounts on virtually any social media platform, showcasing videos of Spotify's lyrics, but with the song sped up (most likely made using CapCut, etc.). Adding this into the app would not only make it easier to find songs, instead of having to search for them on social media, but it would also prevent the publishing of copyright infringed content onto the platform. Meaning, people wouldn't have to create artist accounts featuring sped up/slowed down versions of songs that they don't have the rights to. They would already be available natively in the app. I've seen hundreds (if not, thousands) of people ask for this feature and I think it would be a nice touch on something that no other platform has implemented.

Note:

I did find a pretty similar idea here, but I decided to re-open it since it has been nearly 5 years. I'm trying to be honest with y'all, please don't remove the idea just because it is a "duplicate". If possible, an update would be nice, regarding if this feature will ever come or not, since it did say in the OP's post that they would give an update regarding this. Hopefully it will gain some kind of traction

Thanks,

I would also add that anyone learning to play an instrument especially children are helped by a slow-down function for songs. Now Spotify opens the door for us to consider other apps that work better with third-party slow-down services such as amazing slowdowner.

Seems like an absolute no-brainer... no idea why they still haven't implemented this...

I agree, and I don't understand why this solution hasn't been made yet. I've been using a third-party extension on the web browser version of Spotify and other streaming platforms to curb this, but it would be more convenient and useful if Spotify implemented in its own app. Plus adding this feature would support artists and protect their content from piracy and promote their own app by keeping user retention on their own platform. Users wouldn't have to use third party or other streaming apps like YouTube, Soundcloud or a sketchy extension for pitched music.

With the rise of song edits and their appearance in social media such as Tiktok and Instagram,

many people are looking for certain versions of songs.

instead of dealing with producers who just upload slowed down or sped up versions (that eventually get removed), you can put this idea up 🙂

I agree!

Right now, there's a huge trend in speed-up versions of many artists' songs, and these remixes often circulate on social platforms like. This results in a flood of remixes where the main change is simply increasing the playback speed. Instead, wouldn't it be great if listeners could choose the playback speed themselves, just like with podcasts, and achieve the same effect? It's akin to what you can do with classic vinyl players. Additionally, the original song and artist still get their streams without the need for others to remix them.

I keep revisiting looking for this basic feature which has already been made long available to the podcast side of Spotify. I like to listen to lots of music slow for sleeping to. PowerAmp offers this for my downloaded library.

  • This function would also help when playing the guitar along songs that are quarter tone off. Beeing able to adjust the pitch right in Spotify (like on an old turntable) would make it much easier than having to re-tune the guitar just for that one off song and then back again. Thank you!

Yes.  This would be a great addition to Spotify.  A pitch and speed changer is a very useful practice tool for members of uke groups and others that use their own key when covering songs.  I've been using an extension which worked reasonably well when Spotify was up in Google Chrome, but it has now stopped working.  I'm sure Spotify could do it properly.

Essential feature, because as of now there is no good way to slow down or speed up music. YouTube offers a solution but it's clearly designed for speech and makes music sound awful. There are tons of independent apps but these don't work with streaming services like Spotify.

I'd like this for music practice but it's also nice sometimes just to listen to a favourite song at a different tempo. Seems increasingly popular.

There are several good libraries Spotify could use so it's not a technical challenge: https://bungee.parabolaresearch.com/compare

add a play speed toggle like on podcasts
