Bring back advanced search, again

Spotify has officially gotten rid of searches by genre, album, year, label, the use of AND/OR/NOT to filter searches, etc. Why?! This is ridiculous. Bring back advanced search – again!

A most essential feature that I deeply miss

No! Why would they get rid of this???

An extremely good question. I wish I knew the answer!

Not only is advanced search broken, but certain tracks get spam reposted by record companies hundreds of times a year. For instance, Warner Music Group has reposted Birdy's Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas over 100 times, all on different holiday themed playlists (original one in 2020, 17 in 2022, 85 in 2023, and twice so far in 2024, but surely there will be more). And yet, it's the same track. There ought to be a way to remove duplicates from a search.

The search function currently is such a joke. It finds a million things that aren't even remotely related to what you're searching for and makes it impossible to find what you actually want. I just want advanced search back. I even remember when there was an option to sort the search results by title, artist, album, etc like you can do in playlists. I miss that.

While we're on the subject, if anyone can offer a reasonably precise idea of why Spotify would be stripping out such apparently basic features from the platform, I'd be thankful to learn. My working assumption is that it has something to do with trying to get users to listen to whatever the algorithms decide to push to us.

At least let me use quotation marks and search only song titles if you insist on using a "we know best" approach to my search results. What's the point of paying for a vast library of songs if I can't even find a specific song by its name?

Upvote!

I am new to Spotify. I don't see any search options in the Windows browser, e.g.

  1. long tracks >10 Minutes
  2. Genre: Techno

How can I find long DJ sets by tiefundton?

Edit: I am not allowed to delete my comment. I overlooked that the link is already in the outgoing ticket.

There was a ticket from 2018 that was implemented, but unfortunately only for insiders and only certain options.

You have to memorize the labels and then type them (it's great on a smartphone). There is no overview of selectable search options. I don't understand developers. This contradicts all usability best practices:

  • The function must be available exactly where the user expects it.
  • Don't make me think.

Please. Devs where are you?

PS:

Similar basic function: Sorting. Spotify has refused to offer the basic function for 10 years.

The artist, album, label etc filters work but if you put the and/or/not it disappears (for example if you write "artist: happy around AND artist:merm4id year:2023" it was supposed to give songs both of Happy Around! and Merm4id released in 2023, but for some reason doesn't appear nothing, they got both releases that year). Also, how we are talking about the search, please make the lyrics search work better, like when i write "how can you enjoy noises" it should appear the song Sands by Diorama but the search only gives asmr for some reason. Searching for lyrics that are not like the chorus/most memorable its more harder, because i also wrote "who's screaming and shouting" and it appears, its both lyrics of the same song. At least its kinda better than yt
