“Jump-In” – Instantly Switch to a New Album or Playlist Without Queueing All Tracks

Overview

I’d love to see a feature on Spotify that allows users to instantly transition from their currently playing song into a different album or playlist—without having to add the entire new selection to the queue.

How It Works

  • While listening to a song, users can select a new album or playlist and choose “Jump-In” instead of just playing or queueing it.
  • The moment “Jump-In” is selected, playback immediately switches the upcoming song to come from the new album (in order or on shuffle) or playlist (in order or on shuffle), without needing to wait for the current song to finish to manually switch it.
  • After selecting “Jump-In” the current song continues playing until it finishes.
  • This would allow for an on-the-fly switch in listening experience without disrupting the existing queue.

Example Use Case

  • Suppose I’m listening to Good Day Sunshine from Revolver by The Beatles.
  • I decide I want to start shuffling my Oasis Playlist after the song completes.
  • Instead of queueing the entire playlist or manually skipping ahead, I use “Jump-In”, and Spotify lines up my Oasis playlist to shuffle afterward.
  • After selecting Jump-In, I am free to exit the Spotify app to do other things rather than waiting for the song to finish in order to manually switch to my Oasis playlist

Additional Considerations

If other songs are already queued, users could have the option to either:

  1. Let those queued songs play first before the “Jump-In” transition, or
  2. Override the queue and switch immediately.

This feature would provide more dynamic and personalized control over playback, making it easier to adjust listening moods in real time.
