Currently, when users follow an artist, it primarily serves to improve recommendations and track new releases. To deepen user engagement and personalization, I propose introducing a feature that allows users to designate their favorite songs for each artist they follow.
Feature Overview:
- Favorite Track Selection: When following an artist, users can select their favorite tracks from that artist.
- Personalized Playlist: These selected tracks are automatically compiled into a “My Favorite Tracks by Followed Artists” playlist, offering a curated and easily accessible listening experience. This playlist could be available in the user’s library and optionally displayed on the artist’s profile.
- New Song Alerts: When an artist releases new music, a notification appears when the user plays their personalized playlist, informing them of the new tracks. Users can then:
- Add them directly to their favorites.
- Review them by listening before adding.
- Postpone the decision, with an option to mute notifications until the next release or permanently.
- Fast Selection: To streamline the initial setup, users can quickly add all songs, specific albums, or EPs instead of selecting tracks one by one.
Benefits:
- Enhanced Recommendations: Spotify’s algorithm can better understand a user’s musical preferences by identifying their favorite tracks per artist, leading to more accurate and personalized suggestions.
- Improved User Experience: Users gain quicker access to the music they love, making it easier to enjoy their favorite artists without manually curating playlists.
- Seamless Music Discovery: The new song alert system ensures users stay up to date with releases while giving them control over how they interact with new music.
