Turn off "Made for you" feature

Please give users the option to turn off the "made for [username]" feature. It is ruining my listening experience. Your algorithms aren't half as clever as you think they are. They just keep shoving the same songs down my throat. Please stop. As just one example, there are only so many times I can tell spotify that I don't like Tom Petty, but he keeps showing up in every playlist. I can't think of any good reason for you to not offer this feature to your users - other than maybe you have to pay certain artists less in royalties, so that's why you're pushing them at us? Is that why can't I turn this off?

Absolutely agree! I often decide to explore genres I don't usually listen to, hoping to find something completely new and refreshing. Having a list then made for me, with Spotify finding stuff that is similar to what I already listen to completely defeats the point!

The main reason I started using Spotify over a decade ago was because of the amazing radio algorithm and now it's gone and there's no way to go back.

I like to listen to ANY genre depending on the day and have a ton of different playlists, but now spotifys playlist and radio algorithm only goes based off of your listening history and i guess whatever artists are popular at the moment. Imagine making a spotify radio for Metallica and getting a bunch of dubstep sprinkled between just because one day I liked a bunch of metal songs and the next day I was in the mood for dubstep. Oh and don't forget the random promotion for whoever's new hit song or album because it is the second recommended song in EVERY radio station I make for that entire week.

You can't just remake the radio either, it keeps that same weird mix until the next day so you just have to keep making new radio stations based off of different Metallica songs until the algorithm learns what you want and gives you something tolerable, and disliking the dubstep songs makes them less likely to show up in an ACTUAL dubstep playlist.

The worst part is that I used the radio to find new songs similar to that original song I made the radio off of, which was amazing for niche artists and subgenres, but now that it's based off my likes and playlists I get like 80% songs I've already heard before and only the most popular ones. Even when shuffling a playlist I made myself it gives me the most popular songs or songs I've been listening to on repeat first and will not play the less popular artists until the very end.

There is no way to turn off the "recommended for you" part and the whole DJ thing is so unusable for anyone who likes a wide variety of music I can't even touch it. I used to just clear the cache every day but that only works for a second or two now before the whole radio station remakes itself back into the repetitive thing. AI isn't ready to implement yet in a majority of cases, and it seems like someone added it here just because I guess it's the new trend for every tech company. It makes the user experience much worse and is just sloppy and lazy work.

Pleeeeease give back the old unbiased algorithm or at least add a setting I can toggle off to completely stop the recommendations for music based off of my listening history and playlists.

I totally agree, and that's honestly the main reason I made an account to post on here. I switched to Spotify from Apple music a few years ago because they were better at recommending new music and helping me discover new songs I liked. I've been really frustrated recently because I will find a song that I like, and when I try to use the radio feature to discover songs like it, Spotify instead just plays whatever songs I've already listened to in the past week, which pretty much defeats the purpose of using the radio feature. I feel like its only become an issue in the past few months, it wasn't as bad before then. Or the genre mixes that are "made for me," they also are essentially pointless, because they only play music that I already know that "fits" that genre somehow, and not actual music from that genre.

I agree that this feature is not very useful. As pointed out by another commenter, it just plays the most popular songs of my handful of artists or it plays songs I’ve been listening to a lot recently. I don’t want to listen to my artists most popular songs: I’ve listened to those ones a thousand times. Play me some deep cuts. I also think you should be able to tell Spotify if you don’t want to listen to a specific artist: as in, don’t put this artist in recommendations for me or in Spotify-made playlists for me. They also need a more consistent categorization system for placing artists/bands/groups in certain genres.

Thats strange, it's not my exprerience at all. Whenwcer I hear a song I want to 'branch out of', I hit 'go to song radio' and get a very good playlist with an overwhelming majority of new music. I use this to listen to new music, and it works great for me for the most part. Are you on the free version? Or is this feature geography based? Don't know but for me it works and I hope it stays this way.

AGREED 100% and this is the exact reason I’ve found my way here!

I love to explore genres and use ”Song radio” or ”Band radio” to do that.
That used to be a great feature – now all the playlists and even the radio fuses into a queue full of songs I know and like already (and have listened too many times!).

Spotify people! PLEASE, let’s add an option to toggle the ”made for you”-algorithm off or some slider to choose how much we want personalisation at a time.

To add to the discourse, I have religiously used Spotify’s radio feature in the past because it has always been KING compared to Apple Music’s radio feature and it was the main way I discovered new artists/songs. Now it just feels like a regurgitation of songs I already listen to and sometimes the genre of songs don’t even make sense. This feature was my absolute favorite and ever since the made for you started, it has only muddled my experience. Please have a turn off option for those of us who would like to not have personalization or just have a wide variety of taste in music. Please!!!! And thanks!

Need to at least have the option to turn it off. I see the value of it from time to time, but Spotify has always been known for its great variety of playlists and diversification of songs to allow users to experience new music. There are times when sure I want to listen to songs I know in a specific genre, but more often then not, I want to hear new music. The option to toggle it "On" and "Off" should definitely be there and shouldn't be that hard to create.

I totally agree; it is awful! It's always the same songs over and over and over again. Most of them are from my Liked Songs 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Completely defeats the purpose of NOT listening to my Liked Songs playlist. I want new and different things. If I really don't like a song, I skip it. Spotify is wildin these days

Totally agree! Often the songs the are clearly influenced by my algorithm don’t fit the genre, vibe, mood etc of the playlist. I don’t need every single playlist customized based on what the algorithm “thinks” I want.
