App removing downloads

App removing downloads

Recently had to sit through a 13 hour flight with no music because this app decided to remove all of the downloads I had so it could pointlessly reinstall them. Why the **bleep** am I paying for a service I sometimes don't even get to use? Wouldn't be a problem if the app didn't decide to clear off all my damn music while I'm not connected.

If you're going to raise subscription fees at least make the app better with the money.

Hey there @Ryanbland065,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the Music chat section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

That being said, we'd like to add some insights. You need to go online at least once every 30 days to keep your downloads. This is so Spotify can collect play data to compensate artists. If you were offline for more than 30 days, then it's expected for the downloaded content to be removed.

Now, if this wasn't the case, then it might be worth double-checking the settings of your mobile device. In some cases, battery optimization features or cache-clearing apps can lead to such behavior. We'd suggest you go to the app settings to see if you can set Spotify as an exception.

For us to provide further assistance, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?

Keep us in the loop!

Android, Samsung A52

Has always happened, whatever version with no pattern.

Hey @Ryanbland065,

Thanks for the additional info.

Samsung devices have a built-in optimization service called Device Care which tends to cause issues when used with more "aggressive" settings, so we'd recommend going through them and making sure that Spotify is set as an exception. We can't provide you with specific steps for your particular device, so if you have any trouble finding the relevant ones, it's best to reach out to Samsung Support.

It's also a good idea to check whether you have enough free space on your phone as this is also something that could trigger the removal of your offline content.

We hope this helps, keep us posted on how it goes.
