Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts

Hi Spotify, long term user.

Can you please just fix the mess with Google hangouts and pasting a song.

Looks like pure **bleep** and you can easily compare this with pasting a You Tubesong.

Thanks!  (hate facebook)

Could you give us the exact text you are pasting into hangouts? That looks like you are copying the embed code rather than the HTTP link (and the hangouts page can't render the embed code).

If you just post the HTTP link it just post name of the song/artist and not the url.

Strange behavior...  and easily to test!

Since this seems to be a bug that has to be fixed rather than a feature request I've moved it over here in the help section. 😉

The issue is the hangout window is accepting the HTML but then stripping it when you copy and paste a track from Spotify it actually copies (press Ctrl+Alt+v to paste the copy in plain text):

<a href="http://open.spotify.com/track/2VMKJf3EMKLlycPuggjagS">The Getaway Plan &ndash; Where The City Meets The Sea</a>

but hangouts is stripping the link out (so it's a hangout issue not a Spotify one).

Ran into this today and it doesn't look like it's a hangout issue to me.

It's some weird copy/paste metadata I guess.

How to replicate:

1. On mac, select track, select "Copy spotify link"

2. Go to Hangouts and paste and you get the track name (eg "Weird Al - Inactive") with no link or anything.

3. Go to a text editor and paste, get spotify link (eg spotify:track:6UtYhM8FwONx3G4C413WIp )

4. Copy spotify link from text editor and paste in hangouts, get spotify link.

ergo, there's some metadata or something that comes from the spotify app that screws up pasting directly

from spotify app to hangouts that can be removed by pasting and re-copying somewhere that doesn't care

about said metadata. And this is still a problem as of today 6 months later.
