How do I fix: Spotify app on my LG TV (WebOS) isn’t playing music anymore.

How do I fix: Spotify app on my LG TV (WebOS) isn’t playing music anymore.

Hello, on our LG TV (WebOS) when we load the Spotify app and try to play a song or playlist it doesn’t work.. it’s connected to the internet, tried turning the tv off and back on, tried closing out of the app and reopening the app, the LG TV is up to date, the Spotify app itself is up to date. I’m able to launch the app, move around in it, like/love things.. it’s just it won’t play anymore. Please help! Thank you in advance

Hi there @ApophisK1,

Welcome to the Community!

Sorry to hear this started happening.

The best thing to do is doublecheck for any available firmware updates for the TV. Some of those don't always install automatically.

If the issue continues, can you let us know if it's only songs you search for that are not playing or also playlists, albums and podcast episodes?

Cheers.

Just wanted to chime in here

On my LG C2 TV I can not use Video Podcasts. It actually breaks the Spotify App until you close and re-open the App (and then avoid a video podcast)

To Replicate:

Use an LG C2 TV
- Install Spotify
- Log In to account
- Play Music  (Music will play)
- Switch to a Podcast (that is a Video Podcast)
- App tries to play, then switches to another Podcast you may have listened to recently. Nothing happens
- Navigate to music, (even the same song you used above)
- Music WONT play, Try multiple songs, nothing will work.
- Kill the App

- Open Spotify again
- Play Music, it works
- Play a NON VIDEO PODCAST - works

The problem here is video podcasts, it

A) Does not work
B) Causes the App to fail playback thereafter until reboot.

If Video Podcasts are not supported on LG C2 or WebOS in general, then please issue a fix to only trigger audio playback in podcasts cause it's a bad experience and one that QA should pick up.

Thanks

Hey @stejdm,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you share the exact TV model and OS/firmware version? We also need the Spotify app version you're using.

Does this happen with a different account?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

I can not start any music in the Spotify app on my LG QNED tv.
The app on my smartphone detects the device, but can’t start or migrate any music.

It is connected to the internet because the order of the recent albums changes based on mobile plays. It will not show the currently playing music.
I have tried reinstalling the app which did not fix the problem.

This was an intermittent issue since a few months and is now since like 2-3 weeks a constant problem.

Hope anybody can help

I can’t play music on my LG tv and my request was redirected to this thread. Here is the info from my TV:

Spotify app version: 2024.10.07_8-1625ab0 H 4.44.1

TV software version: 03.31.82

TV model: LG QNED 866RE

WebOS version: 8.3.1-3607

Hope this helps.

(I can’t test with someone else’s account)

Hey @eelkef,

Thanks for sharing the requested info and kudos for the troubleshooting you've already tried.

As a next step, we'd recommend connecting the TV to a hotspot on your phone to exclude any issues with your router/internet connection.

If that doesn't help, you can create a new account using a different email address and close it after the test using these steps. This will help us narrow down the possible cause. If the new account shows the same behavior, this will indicate an issue with your particular device in which case it's best to try a factory reset of the TV.

We haven't had any recent reports about this, so we need to exhaust all relevant troubleshooting steps before we forward the issue to our tech team.

We appreciate your cooperation and we're here if you have any questions in the meantime.

I just switched it from cable to wifi and back again. It worked both times. So no idea how that happened, but it works now 😅
