I cannot seem to start a listening party on discord

I cannot seem to start a listening party on discord, or further, listen along with any of my friends on discord ie: a friend is listening to a playlist, I want to listen to the same playlist they are listening to, they invite me, I can hit the join button, but it doesn't work. or, I can click their discord status, but the same problem happens, the button is highlighted, but it doesn't work. we both have premium, and my friend has not had issues with listening to other people or having a listening party.
