LG WebOS app is really slow and laggy

LG WebOS app is really slow and laggy

Spotify App on LG TV (model is from 2017) is really slow and most of the time it struggles to play after the first song has played on a playlist; it just gets stuck on the next song, displaying album cover and title, but nothing happens. The app sort of freezes at this point, even though after a while I can exit back to the playlists, but I'm unable to start any song.

The app itself is also really sluggish and slow on my TV. It takes seconds to register button presses on my remote, leaving me often wondering did I even do anything.

At the moment, the LG WebOS app of Spotify is unusable, at least on my TV. It used to run better but the updates to the UI have made it slow and unresponsive.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

For starters, we'd recommend reinstalling the app on your TV to check if that makes a difference. You can check how to do that with the steps on this article in the LG TV webpage.

If that doesn't help, would you mind unplugging your router and TV for a couple of minutes and then plugging them back to see if it makes the difference? Additionally, if you have the chance, try using a different internet connection. You can try creating a hotspot on your phone and using that.

Let us know how that goes.

Hi Susan,

reinstalling the app didn't help at all.

My TV is connected via wired connection to a 100 Mbit network, that is working perfectly with every other device and app, so I'd rule the network issues out. In fact, I have Spotify installed on my PS4 (same network) and it's working fine there. I'd just rather use the TV app, instead of starting PS4 just to use Spotify.

Hey @FrankDrebin1987,

Thanks for the reply!

Could you double-check if there are any updates available for your TVs software? You should be able to see this in the TVs settings, or by checking the guide from the manufacturer.

Also, could you send us some more details on what's happening from your end? For example, does the song shows any progress when started, but you can't hear any sound? Have you noticed that it seems to skip tracks? Feel free to include a video showing what you're experiencing, so that we can have a look as well. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Keep us posted!

Hi Maria!

My TV has the latest firmware installed, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I was able to listen to multiple songs on my playlist just fine, but after 5-6 songs later I hit a roadblock us usual. I recorded a video of this incident:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kqdp6yur72ix7t7fubzv2/20240323_151727.mp4?rlkey=nclmhyglg0cbftj4viydp...

As you can see in the video, the song on the playlist just refuses to play, even if I toggle pause and play buttons. There is no progress and I can't hear anything playing either. But this time I managed to play the next song on the playlist (usually the app freezes completely at this point, when it refuses to play one song).

Hey @FrankDrebin1987

Thanks so much for the dropbox link, however we aren't able to access it. Could you please upload your video to Google drive and send us a link from there, just make sure that the files privacy settings are set to public so that we will be able to view it on our end.

Well be on the lookout.

Hi Martin,

I uploaded the video to Google Drive and it should be visible to anyone with a link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Luzj2kYR1jntKDhQ7yyKurXii7Fob5VX/view?usp=sharing

Hi @FrankDrebin1987,

Thanks for the link, we were finally able to watch the video.

Go to your Account Overview page and Sign out everywhere. Additionally, remove access to all the apps you've connected to your account from here. You can easily reconnect your apps anytime. Once done, log back in from the TV and check if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, could you try using another Spotify account and check if you have the same issue there? It can be a relative or friend's account.

If the apps behaves the same way with another account, the next would be to factory reset the TV to check if that resolves the situation. You can follow the steps here.

Same issue on my 2017 model LG webOS TV (49SJ800V). The app is lagging and freezing, and it won't let me play any songs. Please fix it as soon as possible.

Hey @Ustrel,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

Just to confirm, have you tried the steps mentioned earlier in the thread? If so, would you mind letting us know what troubleshooting you've tried so far? This'll help us avoid repeating steps.

Also, are you experiencing similar issues with another other streaming apps (for example YouTube) on your TV?

Feel free to include a video showing how things look from your end, should the issue persist, so that we can have a look as well.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Our LG tv has the same problem! LG 55SJ850V. Very frustrating.

Other apps have no streaming problems.

First song always skipping and stuttering.

After few songs it can randomly stop. After 10 minutes it goes on again.

Re-installing the app will NOT fix the problem

After the new interface (nov 2023) the performance went down very slow interface. It should be a easy music playback application. 4K Disney+ Netflix etc has no problems and that is a lot more data. Please fix it!

Spotify can't handle IPv6. I disabled it in my vlan + LG t and music is playing fine now without interruption.

Still the app interface is slow 😞

Please fix IPv6 support. Other streaming apps have no problems with it.

Thanks @pmaal2 ! Your tip about IPv6 really helped! I had disabled it on
the TV to no avail, but disabling IPv6 on my router made all the difference! Spotify is working on my TV now and seamlessly transfers with Spotify Connect.
Many thanks!
