Open weblinks in the spotify app instead of the web player

Open weblinks in the spotify app instead of the web player

After you guys got rid of sending music to my friends in the spotify app, the next best thing is sending them a link through facebook. But now when we click on those links they open it in the spotify web player. I don't want this. I want to open it in my spotify app on my desktop. And copy/pasting an URL into a player is not the best way.

I've googled this problem already, and all the documentation for this says that I'm supposed to change a setting in the web player but the setting button does not exist in my web player. Was this removed? The settings button that is shown in the screenshots for the help does not exist in my version of spotify web player. In fact, there seems to be no settings button whatsoever. So what do we do now? Do we just have to copy paste links into the desktop player?

Thanks.

Great question and perfect statement of a quandary for many of us, @spotifywtf!

In your Spotify app-- under [Edit, Preferences, Advanced Settings]-- you may find an option that you can set to [Green or "Yes"]-- Maybe the title for this option is "Allow Spotify to be opened from the web".

Does that get you what you need?

Your browser may ask you to go to a Spotify instruction site that tells you how to "enable Widevine"-- which probably Spotify uses to pay the artists whose tracks you play through your browser.  Does that make sense?

I already have this option enabled, yet it doesn't seem to take me to the desktop app when I click on links.

https://open.spotify.com/track/4rEaX8vS59tHuACaWl14Wt

This for example, doesn't take me to the song's page in the spotify app.

I was not prompted about Widevine.

What do you get, @spotifywtf, if you put the

https://open.spotify.com/track/4rEaX8vS59tHuACaWl14Wt

string directly into the browser URLwindow and load that URL?

When you visit this discussion, did you log on with the same Login that your desktop Spotify app accepts?

Hi there, it seems to be working now. Sorry for the late response, I was out of town.

Thanks again guys!
