It would be great to know the year of release of each song (the month would be great too, but one step at a time). When you listen to Spotify's suggestions, or when you listen to any playlist, you might want to find out what year a song was released.
In some cases, you are interested in knowing when a song was released due to the lyrics it contains, in order to be able to contextualize it in a specific historical period.
It could be good for all users who like to sort playlists based on the publication date of individual songs.
I love music from different periods and I dream of being able to read the release year of each song in every context (web, desktop app, mobile app, smartwatch) to better understand its essence. Why did they use those words? Has that particular sound been made by anyone else before?
It could be an option to select: each user can choose if he is interested in having this info or not. It could be in a new column of information, or directly in the title.
Hey @nudaveritasara,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.
That being said, we'd like to add some additional info. Being able to see the release date of certain content is already possible in general terms in the app, as explained here. To do it, you'll need to open the album/single that contains the song to be able to see the release date at the bottom.
This is available on the web, desktop, and mobile. On desktop, if you hover over the year of release at the top, you can also see a more exact date. However, this could be difficult to implement in watches or other devices along those lines, as some features might be restricted due to its general limitations.
If perhaps you were referring to implementing a release date within a playlist column or perhaps having a tag on each individual song, we'll need you to be a bit more specific. So! Feel free to submit your idea again, but make sure to include as many details as possible so we have a better understanding of your suggestion. Take into account that you must follow the guidelines for submitting ideas, so your suggestion will be approved more quickly and smoothly.
Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.
I feel like they were pretty specific. There should be a column in the playlist window for the release date. You could make it optional. I would argue it's the third most important piece of info people care about after the name of the artist and track. That it's not been there from the beginning is strange. Seems like a no-brainer. Would keep people more engaged too. Tell the C Suite.
Would love this feature. At least show year of release in the playlist view!
Yes please! I would prefer to not click on each album in a playlist to see the year, back out, and go to the next.. Great idea, OP!
I agree! An additional column is almost essential. Going to each specific album is tedious.
Single songs in my playlist do not include the release date no matter how deeply you view its contents. Searching for new songs is difficult because the length in time isn’t available until AFTER a song is selected.
I’ll be very happy to see release date with every song without having to browse for the album. Doesn’t have to appear on watches but phones and bigger screens shouldn’t be a problem.
