Spotify free with DTS play Fi

I have a DTS play Fi speaker which fails to connect to WiFi. I have a Spotify Free for a month. The failure message says 'subscribe to Premium ' . I. Can only connect via Bluetooth. Can you confirm if I am correct, or is there a method that will allow WiFi connection. I bought the speaker to explore Play Fi so it's a bit disappointing to not to be able to connect WiFi. Even if the Connect feature is available for free and Premium users, some devices may need a Premium subscription to work properly over Wi-Fi. This is commonly related to the way the device communicates with the Spotify app. 

You can see the full list of devices that need an active subscription by checking this page and using the filter "Need a Premium subscription" as seen below.
